WILD TIME - Kincoppal - Early Learning Centre

November 2023

We are delighted to invite you to our Nature Players Gathering hosted by Kincoppal- Rose bay- Early Learning Centre on Saturday, 4th of November 2023 at 10am - 2pm. This FREE event is a fabulous way to network with fellow nature players. Please share this post with your colleagues. We cannot wait to see you there!
"Our Wild Time nature space is part of the property where Kincoppal-Rose Bay is situated. The area is below the school and consists of ‘wild’ bush areas, a stormwater creek, grassed areas, rocky sections and some bush tracks. The area has many trees and bushes, natural clay, a native garden, vegetable garden beds, spaces to run and roll and some areas ‘set up’ for children’s play and yarning. Fauna includes a variety of birds, plenty of bull ants, blue tongue lizards, possums and even the odd fox or two. We also have access to a local beach on the harbour and the children are able to explore and make many discoveries associated with this type of environment such as sand play, rock pool exploration, water play and litter collection which forms an important part of our visits every few weeks.

We at Kincoppal believe in acknowledging the Gadigal and Birrabirragal people before each visit to Wild Time, our place and recognise the many ways that the First Nation Peoples looked after and cared for the land. Our children are connected and truly love their wild space and we are looking forward to sharing it with you."

Kiama Preschool - Dharawal Country

August 2023

We are delighted to invite you to our Nature Players Gathering hosted by Kiama Community Pre School on Saturday, 5th August, 10am-4pm. This FREE event is a fabulous way to network with fellow nature players. Please share this post with your colleagues. We cannot wait to see you there!
"We at Kiama Preschool take every opportunity to observe Dharawal Country, it is through this observation that guides much of our program. Alfie (4 years) “When it was raining, I still went to Sur Beach. I was a little bit scared of the thunder storm but a lot happy. There was a spider web and the spider, and it was holding a cloud shape leaf and it had little drops of rain on it. I wore a raincoat, and I used an umbrella.” Experiencing and understanding nature and our place in it is an important aspect of our philosophy and embedded into our program. Our natural setting provides an array of experiences to nurture children’s learning, curiosity and creativity as well as gaining a deeper understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing and being. Learning about Country allows opportunities for both children and educators to engage with culturally responsive pedagogies."

KU West Pymble

April 2023

Our first gathering of 2023!
The team at KU West Pymble Preschool are looking forward to sharing stories about how we are connecting children with nature. Adjacent to the Preschool’s fence line is a unique bush area that is carefully maintained by the local Bush Care group. On a regular basis we provide the children with the opportunity to walk the path surrounding the area and explore all that it offers.
The team will talk about the types of explorations that children have been involved in- learning the names and features of the plants, mapping the walk, building a relationship with the Bush Care group, enjoying the opportunity to regularly learn and be led by a First Nations Elder, exploring the colours of the bush through the visual arts, exploring the everchanging nature of the area.
The team will also share some of the living stories that they presented at the 2022 ECA Conference.
